The Unexpected Journey - August 2016

Well, its finished. Man I hate finecast. This model fought me the entire way, right up to trying to get decent pictures of it. I have nothing to say for it except that I am glad its done. Oh well. On to the next one, Eowyn.

Thorin's Company - Bombur EFGT

These minis are so fun. I can't believe its taken me this long to get around to painting them. Its nice because each dwarf is so different that they do not feel repetitious to paint. That combined with sneaking in other miniatures as well, always keeps it fresh. Here is Bombur:

I continue to hack up pieces of goblin town scenery for the bases. Its work's well. I have also finished Gimli and Dori and those posts will be coming up soon. I finished my The Unexpected Journey model for August ( on time, I know, weird), and that will go up here soon. Other than that I did my first ever relatively significant conversion, and I have some other odds and ends floating around.  All in all, the painting life is currently a good one. 

I am way behind on posts so look for some to come out daily this week (hopefully).

Thorin's Company - Balin EFGT

After Kev relentlessly hassling me for never painting heros I started painting Thorin's Company from the Escape From Goblin Town (EFGT) boxed set. They have been pretty fun to work through. I have finished three so far and am about halfway through a fourth, but they all get their own posts, so for starters here is Balin. I have two EFGT boxed sets so I have an entire extra set of Goblin town scenery. Therefore, I have been hacking it to pieces to make bases for the company which has been fun.  So here he is, Balin. I really liked painting the finer detail like the quilting effects on the clothes.

I think I will make a Thorin's Company page as well and add all the pictures to it so they are all in one place.

The Unexpected Journey - July 2016

Rare Uruk Hai Scout

Finally dug this guy out and attempted to do him some justice. Wonderful model, and I put him on a big base. Attempted to recreate the the feel of the ruins in the woods at the breaking of the fellowship.

I got a couple more models to show, but that's for another day. Or at least another post.

Saruman Charging Blast and Grima Mounted

Another big gap between posts. Oh well, what can you do, hurry up and post some pictures I guess. Here are two Shadow and Flame conversions that I did not too long ago. Super cool to paint although I need to get better at painting white. Saruman was tough.

I have a bunch of stuff sitting on the paint station right now. Some finished waiting on bases, some almost done, one special model. Maybe I can get another update out this week. If i get it out this month, I'll call I a win.

Birch Tree Giant Conversion

I have had these for a while. On the old Majestic Bear Miniatures site (now Flame of Shadow and Flame) there was a step-by-step process for converting the Birch and Linden Tree giants into more action, or as I like to call it, bringing-the-pain-to-Orthanc poses. Its a detailed guide to the conversion which I modified a bit. Here is the process I used. Its a bit complicated so read slowly and a few times to make sure you understand it before attempting:

Step 1. Buy a tree giant from Shadow and Flame
Step 2. Make Dave do the conversion.

I think mine turned out pretty good. It took me all weekend to paint it, but that was in between running, mowing, raking, chainsawing, weedeating, more raking, chainsawing, and a general mess of other crap I would rather not have been doing. Oh well. As my dad always says "If ifs and buts were berries and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas". No I don't know what it means either.
